Football, Hockey, and CFAW

This weekend we had all the "CFAW'ers" (College for a weekend'ers) come to Liberty and stay with us to see how they liked the school. We all went to a football game and afterwards I went to coach's house for a bbq, the boys hockey game in which we won 7-1, and then to our blue and white game. It's a game where our players are mixed in with all the high school seniors who might come to Liberty and play against each other.

Hockey Week

This week my hockey team and I went to the D1 mens hockey team. It's so funny cause it's a new thing that when the opposing team is being announced, all the fans in the crowd hold up a newspaper and act like they aren't paying attention. I got to play in our first 2 games this weekend. The first was away @ UVA and we won 17-1. I scored 1 and got 2 assists. The second was home vs. UVA and we won 15-1. I scored 1 and got interviewed by the local newspaper and was on tv!

This week was slightly insane. Hockey consumes my life, but a six pack is shortly on its way :) We have practices almost every day. Our games start in about 2 weeks! During the week my roomies and I got together and had a little too much fun ... we got some pictures which I think are so funny and can't help but laugh at looking at them :)

Beginnings of Liberty

A lot has happened since I've been here! The football games are insane...we've only played twice and we've creamed both teams!!! Then the band came out (you'll see in the pictures) that they formed into the shape of batman, 007, and incredibles. I also am really good friends with a girl named Sarah who helps to lead campus praise and has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. She's opening our gift to her...and the other is Bethany who is the light of my life.

Block Party

There is this thing called a "Block Party" which LU held last night for all of the campus. We had games, tatoos, food, and other obnoxious things to boot. Here's a couple pics with my quad mates :)

I love college!

So I'm officially on the Liberty University Women's Hockey team. It's exciting! We do really hard core practices but all is well. I finally set up all of my stuff in the dorm room and even added some things to spice it up. Classes started on monday, and all that I am taking are awesome. It frustrates me that so much is done on the internet, like even quizzes and tests, but it's something I'll have to get used to. Food here rocks, as long as you know where to get it. There also are little coffee shops that are amazing and hits the spot when you need it. My roomies and I are getting along quite well... :) The pic that is up is regular Liberty sunsets. It's right outside my dorm and couldn't get any better. I am so glad I chose Liberty.

Liberty University

Tuesday was my first day at Liberty. Since I hadn't ever been on campus before, it was a little overwhelming to walk around and be accompanied by the 10,000 students that are also on campus. I had one last meal with my parents and then said goodbye. After I got to see Wes and Garren's townhouse for about an hour. Today we got all of our boring stuff done, and I even got a call from the Coach of the Women's hockey team to come and try out / meet tonight at their practice. I really like my room mates (some are a little creepy) but we all get along pretty well.

Saying Goodbye

Saying goodbye isn't the easiest thing, especially when you have to do it 23+times. I got some good photos of the last few things the kids and I did!


Anne and I broke out the face paints and did some really awesome creations. The funny thing is, the kids all are painted accordingly to their personalities :)

El Parque

Insane, insane week. We have been making plans with another volunteer, Laurie, to spend a week out of the orphanage in Teguc. with a team from South Dakota. We went to the park on Friday, and also had a local church come and spend a day with games and food and music with the kids. Lots and lots of activity around here!

When the church came, they got all the kids to sit down and watch a show.

So this week has been one of the bests so far! We got to travel around a bit alone and figure out just how the city works. Besides that...I got some awesome pictures of daily life with the kids.

Graduation Week

So tomorrow is graduation day for my class, and I won't be there with them. I decided to throw a few pics up of my best's and just remind them that I wish I could be there, but rather be here!

Anyways, me a jose are doing just fine here! This was him pouting and getting mad at me because I made him do his homework. :)

Getting out of the Orphanage

This week has been insane.

I have, at the very least, been spending 6 hours with the kids everyday!

I'm really, really, really in love with this place. Everyday gets better and better. I just saw Indiana Jones for $1.50! I think I liked it; the only bummer was that it was in Spanish!

Jack and Jacob and Kelsey; I miss you guys! When I hang out with the orphans I think about you all. I have some stuff for you when I get home. Only about a month and a half till I see you...Love you :)

Weekly Events

So I decided to make a list of my top 10 favorite things here at the orphanage.

1. Jose grunting at me and trying to form words but not being able to say them. Although I am really happy he´s starting to talk to me more.
2. Dinora being completely mad at me for no reason and then 5 seconds later forgetting why.
3. Danya putting her hands over my eyes to play the ¨guess who¨ game but digging her hands into my eyes so that it hurts
4. Edin crossing his legs and saying ¨voy a pee pee,¨ which means I have to pee but not doing anything about it
5. Glorias amazing meals
6. Totally screwing up a sentence in spanish and then laughing at myself later for it
7. Creatures of all sorts we meet in our shower
8. Daniella telling me to sleep while we are on the couch watching a movie
9. The kids trying to scare Anne with a cat
10. Our next door neighbors blasting music at 5 am every morning

Casa Hogar

I just got done emailing everyone. I heard you are excited about seeing my next blog, and I think I´ll put up a ton of pics this time! Everything is great here. Language is improving, and I really love the food (no matter how bizarre it is) and am really having fun with these kids. It´s not work at all! I think my biggest difficulty right now is the other World Hope Volunteer. She´s really struggling, and apparently she will be asked to leave sometime next week if she hasnt assimilated to the culture by then. Its hard, but I think it´s for the best.
